Description

One Survivor. One Killer. No Guarantees.

The lights are out. The house is quiet in the wrong way. Somewhere nearby, something is hunting you — and every decision you make in the next ninety minutes will determine whether you see the credits roll or become another casualty of the night. That tension, that desperate scramble to stay one step ahead of something relentless and wrong, is exactly what Final Girl bottles and puts on your table.

What It Is

Van Ryder Games built Final Girl as a solo board game that plays like a slasher film feels. You step into the role of the lone survivor — the one the horror movie always saves for last — and fight back against a killer who should not be beatable. You'll manage a hand of action cards, track the killer's movements across the board, and make impossible choices as the clock counts down. Each playthrough tells a different story. Losing feels cinematic rather than frustrating. Winning feels genuinely earned.

The Core Box is the engine at the heart of the Final Girl system. It contains the foundational boards, action cards, tokens, and mechanisms that power every scenario — but it's designed to pair with separate Killer and Location packs (called Feature Film sets) to create complete, playable experiences. If you're new to Final Girl, look for a bundle that includes the Core Box alongside at least one Feature Film set. That combination is where the full horror-movie experience comes to life.

Who It's For

This is a one-player game — designed from the ground up for solo play, not adapted from a multiplayer format as an afterthought. It's a strong fit for solo gamers who want something with real stakes, genuine replayability, and the narrative pull of a genre they love. The rules take a full first session to absorb, but once the system clicks, it moves at pace. At medium weight with sessions running 60 to 90 minutes, it sits comfortably in the sweet spot between accessible and deeply satisfying — approachable enough to learn alone, complex enough to keep you coming back.

Features & Highlights

Component quality is solid throughout, with horror-themed artwork that leans hard into the genre without tipping into camp — it earns its atmosphere. The modular design means the Core Box scales with your collection: every new Feature Film pack transforms it into a completely different scenario with a different killer, a different location, and a different set of threats to survive. The action card system creates genuine decision tension each turn, and the killer's behaviour is unpredictable enough that no two playthroughs unfold the same way. For fans of horror who've always wanted a board game that captures the pacing and dread of a slasher film, Final Girl is a rare thing — a game that actually delivers on that promise.
