The Game
From Indie Boards & Cards, The Resistance is a social deduction game set in a near-future dystopian world. A small band of resistance fighters is trying to bring down a corrupt government — but Imperial spies have infiltrated the group. Resistance members are trying to complete missions. The spies are trying to sabotage them. Nobody knows for certain who is who.
Each round, a leader nominates a team for the next mission. Everyone votes on whether to approve it. Then — in secret — mission members choose to succeed or sabotage. One spy on a mission can sink it entirely. The resistance wins if three missions succeed; the spies win if three fail. It sounds simple. It is not. The game earned a Games 100 award, and its reputation as one of the sharpest social games around is well deserved.
Who This Is For
The Resistance is built for larger groups — five to ten players, with the game hitting its stride at six to eight. It's a natural fit for parties, game nights where everyone knows each other a little too well, or any gathering where the conversation is already lively. At around 30 minutes a game, it's easy to run two or three rounds in an evening. Recommended for ages 14 and up, it has just enough rules to explain in five minutes and enough social depth to spark arguments that last the whole drive home.
