Description

Running an Inn Has Never Been So Delightfully Sinister

The guests keep arriving. They need rooms. They need meals. And some of them — well, some of them are carrying more money than they'll ever spend. In The Bloody Inn, you're not just an innkeeper. You're a very entrepreneurial innkeeper, quietly dispatching wealthy travellers, hiding the bodies, and laundering the profits before the gendarmerie comes knocking. It's dark, it's clever, and it's genuinely funny in the way only a well-designed game can pull off.

What Is The Bloody Inn?

From Pearl Games — the Belgian publisher behind acclaimed titles like Troyes — The Bloody Inn is set in rural 19th-century France, where you and your rivals are competing to run the most profitable (and most murderous) roadside inn. Each round, guests arrive and must be assigned rooms. You can bribe them to work for you, murder them for their money, construct annexes to hide the bodies, or simply collect their room fees if you're feeling unusually law-abiding. The catch: every corpse is a liability until it's properly buried, and the police show up if you're not careful. The tension between greed and caution is where the game lives, and it's delicious.

Cards are the engine of everything — guests double as your workforce, your building materials, and your victims — so every hand of cards demands real decisions. What makes the design sing is how efficiently it turns a grim premise into a tight, deeply satisfying puzzle.

Who Should Play It?

The Bloody Inn plays one to four players and works remarkably well as a two-player game for couples who enjoy a bit of competitive edge with their evenings. The recommended age is fourteen and up — mostly because the theme lands better with older players who appreciate the dark humour. This is a medium-weight game: the rules take one session to absorb, but the strategic depth keeps it interesting across many plays. Plan for sixty to ninety minutes. It's a strong pick for game nights where the group wants something more engaging than a gateway title but isn't ready to commit to a four-hour economic marathon.

What's Inside the Box

Pearl Games is known for component quality, and The Bloody Inn delivers — illustrated in a distinctive watercolour style that perfectly matches the game's tone of genteel villainy. The card-driven design means the box is lean and focused, with no unnecessary filler. Every card has a role, every mechanism feeds into the central loop, and the rulebook does a good job guiding new players through the setup. The compact footprint makes it easy to table at a restaurant or on a smaller gaming surface, which is a genuine practical advantage.
