Build the Sanctuary That Scores

Every round, a new set of objectives reshapes what a winning sanctuary looks like — and the cards already on your grid suddenly need to pull double duty. Nimalia is a game of thoughtful placement and satisfying pivots, where the right card in the right biome at the right moment is exactly as rewarding as it sounds.

About the Game

Published by Lucky Duck Games, Nimalia puts 2 to 4 players in the role of animal sanctuary designers competing over five rounds to build the most impressive — and most strategically arranged — wildlife habitat. Each round, you draw three cards, place one onto your personal 6×6 grid, and pass the rest to the next player. Every card must cover at least one biome, and every card placed is a commitment you'll need to work around as the objectives shift. The theme is warm and the artwork is charming, but the decisions underneath are crisp and competitive.

Different scoring objectives activate each round, so a sanctuary that looked strong in round two may need clever layering to stay relevant in round five. It's the kind of game where a single well-placed card can flip the final standings — and everyone at the table knows it.

Who Should Play It

Nimalia is a great fit for families, casual game nights, and anyone looking for a gateway game that offers more to think about than it first appears. The simultaneous card-drafting format keeps the pace brisk and everyone engaged — there's no waiting around for your turn. At the recommended age of 10 and up, it works beautifully for older kids and adults alike. Games move quickly enough for a weeknight session and offer enough decision depth to satisfy players who want something to chew on.

What Makes It Stand Out

The rotating objectives are the engine that makes Nimalia tick — they prevent any single strategy from dominating and ensure no two games play out the same way. The animal sanctuary theme is genuinely reflected in the grid-building mechanic, with biome placement mattering in ways that feel natural rather than arbitrary. Lucky Duck Games has given the box a lush, illustrated visual identity that makes the whole thing a pleasure to set up and play.
