Some paint effects take layering, patience, and a careful brush. Nurgle's Rot is not one of them. This Citadel Technical paint produces a viscous, translucent yellow-green fluid effect straight from the pot — the kind of festering, bubbling ichor that looks like it belongs in an open wound, a plague-ridden swamp, or pooling beneath a Daemon Prince's feet. It catches the light with an unsettling wetness that no dry layer paint can replicate. One application transforms a mundane base or hollow into something genuinely grotesque.

How It Works

Technical paints are formulated to create specific surface effects rather than provide flat colour coverage. Nurgle's Rot is designed to pool naturally in recesses and flow like a liquid when applied, drying with a semi-translucent, slightly glossy finish that mimics congealed biological fluid. Apply it into cavities, eye sockets, between tentacles, over pustule-covered surfaces, or across base terrain for diseased water effects. It layers well — multiple coats deepen the opacity and intensity. For maximum effect, apply over a pale base colour such as a yellow or bone tone to let the translucent green glow through. It works equally well on sculpted gore, corrupted machinery, plagued vegetation, or any model where something deeply unpleasant has been leaking.

Nurgle's Rot is a staple for anyone painting Nurgle-affiliated models across any miniature wargaming system — but its appeal reaches well beyond plague daemons and Death Guard. Horror-themed armies, undead, swamp creatures, corrupted terrain, and grotesque monsters of any faction benefit from a touch of this paint.
