One Too Many Orders at the Jungle Fruit Shop

The bananas are flying off the shelves, the durians are piling up, and nobody — absolutely nobody — has checked the new inventory. That creeping tension as the orders stack higher than your stock can cover is what makes Durian such a delight: a fast, funny bluffing game where confidence is everything and the gorilla manager is always one bell-ring away from discovering your mess.

What Is Durian?

From Oink Games — the Japanese studio famous for packing enormous fun into tiny boxes — Durian puts players in the roles of fruit shop clerks who have oversold their inventory and are desperately trying to cover it up. Each turn, players claim to be adding fruit to the shop's stock, but not everyone is telling the truth. Call out a lie at the wrong moment, or get caught bluffing yourself, and the gorilla manager storms out of the office. Three gorilla siblings lurk around the shop ready to cause extra chaos, and the pressure never lets up until someone cracks.

It plays fast — usually well under thirty minutes — and every round ends with either laughter or groans, sometimes both at once. The rules are simple enough to explain in two minutes, but reading your fellow clerks takes considerably longer to master.

Who Should Play It?

Durian is a light social game that works beautifully as a warm-up before a heavier game night, a party filler, or a standalone evening of quick rounds with friends. It supports two to six players and plays best with four or more when the bluffing really starts to sing. The age recommendation of eight and up holds true — younger players can absolutely join in, and adults will find plenty to enjoy in the psychological back-and-forth. If you have someone in your group who says they don't like board games, start here.

What's in the Box?

This is an Oink Games production, which means the packaging is compact enough to slip into a jacket pocket while the components punch well above their weight. The artwork is cheerful and vibrant — the gorilla siblings in particular have real personality — and everything is built to handle repeated plays. The small footprint makes it an easy carry to game nights, travel, or a table at a café. Simple to store, impossible to leave behind once you've played it.
