Carcassonne Expansion 3: Dragon & Fairy
Bring magic, danger, and new strategic depth to your games of Carcassonne with Carcassonne Expansion 3: Dragon & Fairy. This expansion introduces a powerful dragon that roams the landscape, a protective fairy that rewards clever placement, and mysterious portals that allow followers to appear in unexpected places.
Designed by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede and published by Hans im Glück, this expansion adds thrilling interaction and tactical twists while preserving the elegant tile-laying gameplay that made Carcassonne a classic.
Note: This is an expansion and requires the base game of Carcassonne to play.
New Magical Elements
The Dragon
The dragon awakens when volcano tiles appear on the board. Once summoned, players take turns moving the dragon across the landscape, devouring any followers (meeples) it encounters.
This mechanic adds a dramatic element of risk and interaction, forcing players to reconsider where they commit their followers and how they build their cities, roads, and monasteries.
The Fairy
The fairy provides a helpful counterbalance to the dragon’s menace. When placed with one of your followers, the fairy offers protection from the dragon and grants bonus points when the feature scores.
Choosing where to deploy the fairy becomes a subtle but powerful tactical decision.
Volcano Tiles
Volcano tiles introduce the dragon into play. When one is placed, the dragon emerges onto the map and begins its destructive journey.
Magic Portals
Magic portals allow players to place a follower onto any open feature elsewhere on the board rather than on the tile just placed. This dramatically expands strategic possibilities and allows clever players to sneak into valuable scoring opportunities.
