Description

One Coat. Rich Colour. Done.

Royal Robes is a deep, saturated purple from The Army Painter's Speedpaint 2.0 range — the kind of colour that transforms bare plastic or primed metal into finished cloth in a single pass. Apply it over a white or light grey primer and watch it pool naturally into the folds and recesses, building shadow and highlight simultaneously. The result looks like it took three stages. It didn't.

How Speedpaint 2.0 Works

Speedpaint 2.0 is a contrast-style paint that combines base coating, shading, and highlighting in one formula. The specially developed medium carries highly saturated pigment that flows into recesses to create depth while leaving raised surfaces lighter and more vibrant. Version 2.0 improves on the original with better reactivation resistance — meaning you can layer and drybrush over a dried Speedpaint without lifting the coat underneath, a significant upgrade for painters who want to push their models further after the base application.

Royal Robes suits robes, cloaks, arcane armour, magical textiles, and any surface where you want a rich purple with natural shading. It reads well across fantasy armies, sci-fi psykers, warlocks, and priests. The colour works equally well on large cloth panels and small details like gem settings or lining.

Who It's For

New painters will find Speedpaint 2.0 one of the most rewarding products to start with — the formula does the blending work automatically, so a first-time brushstroke produces a result that looks intentional. Experienced painters use it for batch work, speed-painting whole units to a strong tabletop standard before adding spot highlights with a layer paint. If you paint warbands, armies, or dungeon-crawl sets where model count is high and time is short, Speedpaint 2.0 earns its place on the palette. Any miniature painter working in the tabletop hobby — regardless of game system — can use this alongside Citadel, Vallejo, AK Interactive, or any other brand in their collection.
