Description

A Solid Foundation in a Single Coat

Grey primers are the unsung heroes of the miniature painting workflow, and Wolf Grey earns its place at the top of the rack. This mid-tone grey sits between the extremes of stark white and swallowing black, giving you a balanced base that lets both dark shadows and bright highlights read cleanly over the top. It's particularly forgiving for newer painters — colours don't shift as dramatically over grey as they do over white, and you won't be fighting to build coverage over a black primer if you favour brighter schemes. One smooth, even coat and your models are ready for paint.

Where It Fits in Your Workflow

Colour Primer sprays from The Army Painter are designed to prime and base coat in a single step. Wolf Grey doubles as both a primer and a pre-applied base colour, which means you can skip the base coat stage entirely on armour panels, skin, fur, stone, and any element of your model that suits a grey tone. That's a genuine time saving across a whole squad or unit. The formulation bonds to plastic, metal, and resin, making it a versatile option regardless of what you're building — Warhammer, Warmachine, Infinity, historicals, or anything else on a sprue or blister. Apply in short, even passes at approximately 25–30cm from the model, in temperatures above 15°C, and avoid humid conditions to prevent frosting.

Who Should Reach for Wolf Grey

This primer earns its keep across the full range of hobby experience. New painters building their first force will appreciate how it simplifies the early stages — fewer steps before you're putting colour on models, and a forgiving base tone that works with most palettes. Experienced painters running high-volume squads will use it as a batch-painting accelerator. The colour itself is well-suited to Space Wolves, Nighthaunt, undead, stone and rubble basing work, grey fur, power armour in silver or blue-grey schemes, and any model that lives in a cooler part of the colour wheel. Keep a can on hand even if you have a dedicated airbrush setup — rattle can primers are faster for small batches and require no cleanup.
