Description

Find Your Rhythm, Fill Your Moon

There's a particular kind of quiet satisfaction in Nova Luna — the moment when a tile you placed three turns ago suddenly unlocks a chain of completed tasks, and everything clicks into place like the phases of the moon aligning. It's a game that rewards patience and peripheral vision, asking you to think not just about your next move, but about the shape of everything you're building.

About the Game

From Pegasus Spiele, Nova Luna is a tile-placement puzzle game designed by Uwe Rosenberg and Corné van Moorsel. Players draw tiles from a shared circular track — a stylized lunar calendar — and arrange them in their own growing tableau. Each tile carries a colour and a set of task tokens, and completing those tasks by surrounding tiles with the right neighbouring colours removes the tokens from your board. The goal is simple: be the first to place all your task tokens. Getting there requires a sharp eye for patterns and a willingness to plan several moves ahead.

The game earned a nomination for the Kennerspiel des Jahres, the German award recognizing games with meaningful strategic depth, and it's easy to see why. The rules fit on a single page, but the decisions stack up beautifully.

Who Should Play It

Nova Luna plays one to four players and works remarkably well as a solo puzzle — the tableau-building challenge holds up on its own without opponents. At two players, the competition for tiles tightens considerably and adds real tension to every pick. It suits players aged eight and up, runs thirty to sixty minutes, and sits comfortably in the light-to-medium weight range. This is an excellent choice for couples, for players looking for something more engaging than a casual filler without the overhead of a full strategy game, and for anyone who enjoys spatial puzzles with a zen-like visual appeal.

What's in the Box

The components lean clean and elegant — a wooden moon-disc token serves as the turn-order marker, and the tiles themselves are thick, attractively illustrated, and satisfying to handle. The circular tile track at the centre of the table gives the game its distinctive table presence. The artwork uses a muted, earthy palette that keeps the gameplay information clear without sacrificing visual warmth. The whole package is compact and easy to set up, with a footprint that works well even at a small table.
