Description

Stomp Through the City That Never Sleeps

The skyscrapers are crumbling, the military is mobilizing, and somewhere across the bridge, another monster is eyeing your territory. King of New York takes everything that made its predecessor a hit and drops it into the most iconic city on earth — bigger, louder, and with a lot more at stake than just who gets to sit on a throne.

Published by IELLO, this standalone game puts two to six players in control of colossal monsters battling for dominance across New York's five boroughs. Buildings get demolished for bonus rewards, military units push back hard if you linger too long in Manhattan, and fame — not just brute strength — can win the day. The push-your-luck dice-rolling system is fast and intuitive, but the decisions behind each roll carry genuine weight. Do you press your attack on Manhattan and risk the army's wrath, or retreat to the outer boroughs to heal and gather strength?

This one sits comfortably in the sweet spot between casual and competitive — it's easy enough to teach in minutes, but the player interaction and shifting board state give experienced gamers plenty to enjoy. It plays well with three to five players, though it scales smoothly across the full range. Recommended for ages ten and up, and sessions typically run between forty-five and ninety minutes. It's a natural fit for family game nights, game nights with friends who are still building their collection, or anyone who wants something with real energy and theme at the table without a steep learning curve.

The component quality is solid throughout — custom dice, vibrant monster boards, and artwork that fully commits to the B-movie kaiju aesthetic. The borough board adds meaningful geographic strategy absent from the original, and the Celebrity and Unit card systems layer in variety that keeps repeat plays feeling fresh. If the group gets hooked, the King of Tokyo universe offers compatible expansions worth exploring.
