Description

A Journey Into the Unknown

Each card you play sends your explorer deeper into the wilderness of Faraway — but here's the twist that makes every decision sting just a little: points are scored in reverse. The sanctuaries you discover last are worth the most, which means the choices you make early, when you know the least, will define whether your final push through the wilderness pays off. It's the rare game that rewards patience and punishes greed in equal measure.

What Is Faraway?

From Catch Up Games, the French publisher behind a string of elegant, smartly designed titles, Faraway is a card-drafting journey game for two to six players. Over eight rounds, players simultaneously choose cards to build their expedition route — each card representing a region of a strange, beautifully illustrated world. At the end of the game, you score your route in reverse order, starting from the deepest region and working back. Sanctuaries hidden along the way grant bonus points, but only if you've met their conditions at the moment you reach them on the scoring path. That delayed reveal of who actually built the smartest route gives the final scoring a satisfying, almost suspenseful quality that keeps everyone leaning in until the last card is flipped.

Who Will Love It?

Faraway plays two to six players and handles the full range well — it's genuinely good at two and scales cleanly to a larger group. The rules teach in minutes, making it an excellent gateway into more strategic card games, but there's enough tactical depth to keep experienced players thinking. A full game wraps up in 20 to 40 minutes, which makes it an easy yes on a busy game night or a natural opener before something heavier. The illustrated world is inviting enough to draw in players who respond to atmosphere as much as mechanics.

What's in the Box

The production punches well above its compact footprint. Faraway's card art — depicting lush, otherworldly landscapes and curious creatures — is genuinely striking, with a consistent visual identity that makes the world feel cohesive rather than decorative. The card stock is sturdy, the iconography clean and readable, and the overall design reflects the care Catch Up Games consistently brings to their physical components. Everything fits neatly into a small box that travels well and hits the table fast.
