Steam Up: A Feast of Dim Sum captures that delicious tension and turns it into a surprisingly strategic board game that is as warm and social as the meal that inspired it.

A Feast Worth Gathering For

Published by Hot Banana and KTBG, Steam Up is a competitive game set around a dim sum feast where players take on the roles of hungry animals vying for the best dishes as they circulate the table. The central mechanic is elegant — a rotating selection of dim sum dishes moves around the play area, and players must time their choices carefully, balance what they take now against what might come around again, and manage the abilities of their animal character to get the most satisfying meal by game's end.

The theme is not just decorative — it genuinely drives how the game feels. The tension of a shared table, the social reads, the mild chaos of competing appetites — it all translates at the board in a way that makes the game memorable long after the final scoring. For a title that looks cheerful and approachable on the surface, there is a satisfying layer of decision-making underneath.

Who Belongs at This Table

Steam Up plays two to four players and hits its stride with three or four, where the competition for dishes feels lively and the rotating selection creates genuine moments of drama. The age recommendation of 14+ makes it a strong fit for older families and adult game nights alike, but the approachable rules make it one of the better gateway titles for friends newer to hobby gaming. At a medium-light weight with play times in the range of 45 to 75 minutes, it sits comfortably on a game night where you want something with more texture than a quick filler but without the overhead of a full evening commitment.

Components and Presentation

Steam Up arrives with standout production values that reflect real care for the theme. The artwork is vibrant and characterful — the animal cast is charming without being cloying, and the dim sum illustrations are detailed enough to make you genuinely hungry. The components are well-made and the game's visual identity is cohesive throughout, from the dish tiles to the character boards. This is a game that looks beautiful on the table and earns its place in the collection on presentation alone — before you have even played a round.

Specifications

Specification

Detail

Publisher

Hot Banana / KTBG

Players

2–4

Recommended Player Count

3–4

Age Range

14+

Play Time

45–75 minutes

Game Weight

Medium-Light

Language

English

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0603/4980/8728/files/3937030d945247a8a4c079b21025b421_0.webp?v=1790876338
