asmodee-canvas-2nd-edition-board-game
Canvas: 2nd Edition Board Game

Where Every Hand Deals a Different Masterpiece

There's a moment in Canvas when you hold three transparent cards up to the light and see them click together — colours bleeding into one another, icons aligning just right — and your painting suddenly looks like something that belongs on a gallery wall. It's quiet, tactile, and genuinely beautiful. In a hobby full of loud competition, Canvas earns its place at the table by doing something almost no other game does: it makes you feel like an artist.

About the Game

Canvas is a card-drafting game from Asmodee in which players layer translucent art cards to compose original paintings. Each card is a semi-transparent piece of original artwork, and as you stack them, the imagery and icons from each layer show through — creating a composition that is entirely your own. The icons you reveal determine which ribbons you score, and ribbons are how you prove your vision was more than just pretty colours. This second edition is the definitive package, bundling in the content from both the Reflections and Finishing Touches expansions alongside the complete base game.

Part puzzle, part art project, part light competition — Canvas doesn't demand ruthless play, but it rewards clever layering and a sharp eye for which combinations score best. It earned wide praise for its accessibility and its stunning visual design, and it remains one of the most distinctive-looking games you can put on a table.

Who Should Play It

Canvas works beautifully for two to five players, and it shines equally as a couples game or a relaxed group activity. The rules come together quickly — this is a light-to-medium game that most players will feel comfortable with after a single round — and a full game wraps up in around 30 to 45 minutes. It's an excellent gateway title for households that want something more engaging than classic games without the overhead of a complex strategy night. The all-ages-friendly theme and approachable rules also make it a strong gift for creative types who haven't yet found their way into the hobby.

What's in the Box

The standout here is the component quality — the translucent art cards are the whole experience, and they are genuinely gorgeous. Printed on high-quality semi-transparent card stock, they layer in a way that feels purposeful and tactile rather than gimmicky. With the Reflections and Finishing Touches expansion content included, this edition offers significantly more variety in ribbons, scoring combinations, and card content than the original release, giving experienced players fresh challenges while keeping everything accessible for newcomers.

Specification

Detail

Publisher

Asmodee

Players

1–5

Recommended Player Count

2–4

Age Range

14+

Play Time

30–45 minutes

Game Weight

Light

Language

English

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0603/4980/8728/files/s-l1600_c76f200c-09fc-4c3f-8387-b38d70e6e128.jpg?v=1792549197
